Membrane separation technology can achieve resource recovery and reuse, and it is already one of the most mature and widely applied technologies for this purpose.


Membrane separation is highly effective at concentrating, separating, and purifying useful components from wastewater, gas streams, or process fluids, enabling them to be recycled and reused.


Main ways it realizes resource recovery

1. Water reuse & recycling

   - Microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO) purify wastewater into reusable process water or even drinking water.

   - Widely used in reclaimed water systems, industrial water recycling, and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems.


2. Recovery of valuable substances

   - Recovery of metals (nickel, copper, zinc, etc.) from electroplating / mining wastewater.

   - Concentration and reuse of proteins, enzymes, antibiotics, and active ingredients in food & biotech.

   - Recovery of salts, acids, and alkalis in chemical industry.


3. Gas separation & resource recycling

   - Membrane separation of CO₂, hydrogen, methane, etc.

   - Used in hydrogen recovery, biogas upgrading, and carbon capture.


4. Reduction of waste discharge

   By concentrating pollutants or useful components, membranes reduce waste volume and allow recycling instead of disposal.
